The Silver Falcons 45th Anniversary

The date was 24 November 1967, the event was the opening of the Atlas Aircraft Corporation and the air force’s aerobatic team, The Bumbling Bees, were leading a 16 ship Impala (Aermacchi MB-326 Mk1) formation as a flypast ceremony. Colonel Chris Prins gave the order, “Silver Falcons…Pull Up”, the four aircraft pulled up, the other 12 carried on straight. The Silver Falcons then proceeded to perform their first display and team was officially born. 45 years later, 73 teams and 97 pilots later, the Silver Falcons have become a household name in South Africa and are synonymous with precision flying at airshows all around South Africa.

I was very fortunate to be invited to cover and document the 45 year anniversary or reunion at Langebaanweg, exactly 45 years later to the day. Here are a few images of the event.
